Supergirl Season 3 sees a ratings drop compared to Season 2

Supergirl returned on superb form on Monday, but the ratings (so far) haven’t matched the show’s rise in quality – the premiere drew in only half the audience that the Season 2 premiere managed.

The Season 3 premiere averaged a 0.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 1.9 million total viewers in its 8PM Monday time slot. It’s a nearly 50% fall from the Season 2 premiere, in the same demographic, and a 49% fall in live viewers.

The CW are known for not allowing ratings to phase them, however. Arrow saw a drop in two million viewers in its fifth season and the network still renewed it. It makes me count our blessings that Supergirl is in The CW’s hands and not still at CBS – if that were still the case, we’d be in heaps of trouble.

The premiere saw Erica Durance take over the role of Alura.

While live views are important, it’s the Live +7 views that matter most and Supergirl is yet to see the final Live +3 and Live +7 figures for its premiere. Once they’re released, we might see figures that don’t quite so disappointing.

As you know, we’re huge supporters of Supergirl here at The Nerd Recites. We want to see the show thrive and flourish, for as long as The CW want to keep it going. I don’t think these figures are much cause for concern at the moment, given the network we’re dealing with, but I might begin to fear for the show’s longevity if we don’t see an upturn in ratings as the season progresses. Kara has lots more to give and I don’t want the show bow out after 3 seasons.
